The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak

It’s a young adult book, but don’t let that deter you—it’s on par with other young adult books like The Giver. It’s a very interesting fictional story about a young german girl during WWII who falls in love with books and begins to steal them. Part of what makes this book so interesting however, is it’s narrated by Death, giving it an unusual perspective and a surprisingly characterization of Death himself.

Getty Moodstream. It an interface that allows users to adjust settings to create a specific mood which then portrayed through the pictures. I’m not sure how useful it is for finding images, but it’s certainly a fun thing to play around with. Here’s how Getty describes it:
“Any mood can take you places. Moodstream is a powerful brainstorming tool designed to help take you in inspiring, unexpected directions. Whether you want images, footage or audio, or just need a stream of fresh ideas, tweak the Moodstream sliders to bring a whole new creative palette straight to you. Ready? Stream. Create.”
–Thanks Betsy Dale!

I had never seen this before and was intrigued: played with it for awhile… you set the criteria and then hit the + key to add images you like to a moodboard. Seemed like it was adjusting to my choices. Might be some good music on there too!

Discovered Laura Marling‘s “Alas I Cannot Swim” from a magazine list and got hooked on her raw, folksy voice.

My favorite song, by far, is The Captain and the Hourglass. The others will grow on you, too.

[Still working on embedding audio into posts: If it doesnt work below, the link above will take you to a page where you can preview the song.]

From Sanna Annukka‘s portfolio bio:

I’m an illustrator and printmaker with a love for nature and folklore. I’m half finnish and half english. I spent many summers throughout my childhood in Paltaniemi, a village in Finland, swimming and fishing in Oulujarvi and exploring the forests. I also travelled to Lapland, camping by artic rivers enjoying the midnight sun. The forests, lakes and wildlife of where I grew up heavily inspire my work. Lapland is one of my favourite places on earth and also Chamonix (in France) where I go snowboarding most years.

Another major influence is Finland’s national epic known as The Kalevala, a collection of folklore songs which i find quite magical. My new range of prints coming out this year will depict ten different scenes from the Kalevala.
